Today is February 5th 2008, a day which I'm sure will be remembered in American History. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are neck in neck in their race for the white house and their journey either begins or ends tomorrow.
I'm not a big superbowl fan, but I watched the half-time show Sunday night. When Tom Petty cried out American Girl it reminded me of a time in my life where I was proud to be an American.... and that was during the presidency of Bill Clinton. My dad would put on his old Tom Petty album and I would run around dancing and screaming American Girl at the top of my lungs.
Although I was only five, I knew what true democracy meant because my parents took me to every Bill Clinton rally and meeting in our little state of Arkansas. Our family had known the Clintons for many years and I got to witness the second most brilliant person I have ever known become President of the United States. As a young child I would rest in peace at night because I trusted and respected that man to rule our country.
I only dream that I can sleep that well again as for the past 8 years of my life the Bush administration has burned fear and hate into my brain. The visions of sugar plums have turned into visions of airport alert scales and Saddam Hussein dancing in my head. I want their fucking propaganda out of my head. It is not enough to just have my friends come home from Iraq, we cannot repeat the mistakes our nation made as we turned our backs on our vietnam veterans who came back in complete shock from the last atrocious war of our nation.
We need a president who wont turn her back on those men when they need the money to pay for the proper therapy it takes to recover from the intense trauma inflicted on these men. Some can handle it, others can't, but when they serve for our nation we owe them a healthcare plan which will cover their mental and well as physical illnesses. We owe it to them that they can come home and actually KEEP a roof over their heads. And we need to once again make America a place where they know they will only be asked to risk their lives when all other options have been exhausted. I am ready for that America and I know the only way we are going to get there is by electing the most brilliant person I have ever known, who just so happens to be a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
As I listened to Tom Petty cry out those words last night the meaning of that song completely changed, and I saw a vision of a nation which we will all be proud to live in. A nation which nurtures and uplifts its lower and middle class rather than capitalizing on them. A place where people from all over the world come for a better life and are helped along that path.
I am not asking you to agree with all of my visions of a greater America, but I do ask you to vote, care, and most importantly know why you support the candidate which you vote for today. I could go on for days about reasons why I support Hillary Clinton but I wont bore you with the details. I just hope you can do the same for your candidate.

"Well she was an American girl
Raised on promises
She couldnt help thinkin that there
Was a little more to life
Somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
Yeah, and if she had to die
Tryin she had one little promise
She was gonna keep"
Tom Petty, American Girl

Thanks for listening.
Please Vote Clinton 2008
